Sherco has been around
since the 1970's. It has had a number of different incarnations over
the years. The game started out as a mail-order only product. The early
games were sent in a brown envelope and had a very "home-made" feel to
them. As the game gained popularity the components were up-graded and
Sherco eventually came to be a sophisticated player in the statistical
replay genre. Sherco II and Grand Slam were very advanced for their
time. Sherco is credited with developing a lot of unique features
including a gridded playing field that took into account the
characteristics of individual ballparks. Sherco eventually shifted to
providing the player ratings in a newletter format to get around the
royalties that Strat-O-Matic and APBA were being force to pay MLB.
